Teens injured in rollover accident

Police are investigating rollover accident

(LAPEER COUNTY) – Three teens were injured, two seriously, in a one-vehicle rollover accident in Lapeer County’s Burlington Township Tuesday afternoon.

Rescue crews responded to the scene on Barnes Road, near Merrill around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a rolled over vehicle in a field.

According to the Lapeer County Sheriff Department, a 16-year old male from North Branch was driving east on Barnes when he lost control. Both the driver, and a male 16-year old back seat passenger, were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the wreckage.

A 17-year old female front seat passenger was wearing a seatbelt and not ejected. Both passengers are from the Silverwood area.

All three were taken to a local hospital with the two teen males being later transferred for further treatment. The road was closed for three hours for accident reconstruction by investigators.

Deputies were assisted by EMS units from Lapeer County and Marlette and the Burlington Township fire department.
