Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in a fatal truck crash last Wednesday, according to the Michigan State Police’s Lapeer Post.
Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Wednesday, May 13, shortly before 5 p.m. on Hemingway Lake Road, near North Lake Road, in Otter Lake. 911 callers reported the car was on fire in a ditch. When troopers arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed, and rescue efforts were impossible.
Investigators believe the 2003 Ford Ranger had struck a tree and split in half before catching fire. The driver, a 46-year-old Ypsilanti man, was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.
Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the crash.
Columbiaville and Marathon Fire Departments assisted troopers on scene.
