Two-vehicle accident in Evergreen Township overturns box truck, injures both drivers

accident-2

A Wednesday morning semi-truck and car accident in Sanilac County’s Evergreen Township injured the two involved drivers.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 10:45 a.m. yesterday, August 7, reporting an accident between a car and semi-truck at the intersection of VanDyke and Deckerville Roads in Evergreen Township. Deputies were dispatched to the scene with Argyle Fire, Marlette EMS and Cass City MMR.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies determined that a 2016 Freightliner box truck had been northbound on VanDyke Road when it was struck by an eastbound 2024 Ford Escape. The Ford had been driving on Deckerville Road when the driver, a 36-year-old Bad Axe man, disregarded the intersection’s stop sign, colliding with the semi. The impact of the Ford hitting the box truck caused the box truck to turn sideways and overturn in the roadway.
Both vehicles were only occupied by their drivers, with the Bad Axe man being freed from his car by Argyle Fire’s Jaws of Life before transport by Cass City MMR. He was initially taken to Hills and Dales Hospital before being airlifted to Covenant Hospital by Flightcare.
The box truck’s driver, a 23-year-old man from Washington, was also injured in the crash, and was transported by Marlette EMS to Marlette Regional Hospital for care.
Names and additional information are being withheld as this accident remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.
