With the building clearly visible from M-46 now, construction work on McKenzie Health System’s Replacement Hospital Project continues to move forward.
With the last public update given in March, when construction focused on steel decking and the loading dock area, May’s update sees underground electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work continuing in Areas C and D, while additional underground utilities are advancing into Area B.
Above ground, cold formed metal framing panels continue along the north elevation, with new framing now beginning on the east elevation as well. Protective canopy support steel has also been added, and site grading work continues to help shape future drives and parking areas.
In the coming weeks, crews will begin roof membrane installation, continue underground backfilling operations, and prepare for temporary DTE power service to the site. The construction plan includes the new hospital, along with a wide entrance on M-46, a second entrance on Gates Road, and spacious parking. There is also additional acreage for expansion and new buildings that may be needed in the years ahead.
The new hospital project, which received a Letter of Conditions from the USDA’s Community Facilities Program for a direct loan, broke ground in October 2025, and is estimated to finish in Spring of 2027.
