Music Contest for Young Musicians

Lexington, MI – In keeping with its mission statement to “Promote traditional and acoustic music in the Thumb of Michigan”, and in a continued effort to involve more young people in the organization, the Blue Water Folk Society (BWFS) is proud to sponsor the Rising Stars Music Competition for Young Musicians again this year.

Rising Stars Director, Kevin Czarnik, says, “Our goals for the competition are to identify and promote the talent and abilities of young musicians, and to help them develop their stage and performance abilities. All young musicians are invited to participate and all genres of music are welcome. Performers can compete in two categories: best performance and best original song. This year we are expanding to offer opportunities for two different age groups: 17 & under and 18-25 years. We look forward to meeting even more talented young musicians at our auditions this year.”

Auditions will be held on April 7 at Port Huron Music Center and on April 14 at Cros-Lex Middle School. Registration on both dates begins at 1:00pm. Registration closes promptly at 1:30pm. Auditions begin after registration.

Musician should be prepared to perform two songs of their choice, and all music must be live and performed acoustically. Additionally, all musicians and their accompaniment must be within their specified age group.

Top performers will be invited to compete on Saturday, May 19, at the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum.

A total of 12 cash prizes will be awarded to the top three in each category, in each age group: First place: $150, Second place: $75, Third place: $50

Competition winners will also be invited to perform on stage at Thumbfest in Lexington, MI, on September 1, 2018.
