Dance Classes

The Sanilac County Historical Society is hosting two dance-related events this year; the BIG BAND BASH on July 12, 2020 and the Prohibition Party on August 22, 2020.  They’ve invited a ballroom dance instructor to help get folks ready to shine on the dance floor!

Therese Ritter has been teaching swing dance classes for 22 years in the Farmington and Rochester areas.  Happily, she’s agreed to make the trip up from Oakland County to teach 4 once a month classes in Port Sanilac.  Therese tells us, “Swing dancing has maintained a devoted following since the 1920’s.  I love introducing new people to swing dancing. It’s a great way to bring people together for a fun evening that also makes them competent at a new skill.”

The classes will be held on the second Friday of each month, March-June 7-8:30 pm, at the Blue Water Sports Bar, located at 8 N. Ridge St. in Port Sanilac.  The class is for beginners and no experience is required.  Couples and singles are welcome.  Dancers are invited to attend one class or all four.  Instruction will concentrate on couples East Coast Swing (also referred to as Lindy Hop or Jitterbug).  Learn a different “move of the month” at each class.  During the June class, and in preparation for the Prohibition Party, the class will learn some side-by-side Charleston dance moves.
