Croswell city council rolls out construction plans, addresses broadcasting concerns

The Croswell City Council met this past Monday to discuss upcoming construction projects and to address concerns regarding the broadcasting of council meetings.

Council members announced that Boddy Construction LLC, a general contractor based out of Port Huron, is expected to begin work in Croswell on June 3. They will be tackling Ward, Brown, and Davis Streets during the summer. Work on these streets was expected to begin much earlier, however, the contractors experienced some delays.

“They’re doing a big project in Sandusky and ran into some hiccups there,” City Administrator David Tait explained. “[They will be] adding some additional sidewalks and walkways within those projects [in Croswell].”

One citizen also expressed their confusion about the council’s handling of meeting broadcasts. During last September’s meeting, the city council planned to follow equipment recommendations offered by Chuck Cunningham, who is familiar with the Navy’s information technology (IT) department. At that time, members were still looking into livestreaming and then posting meetings to the city’s website and app. Though this plan was met with some pushback, it was eventually approved in a vote of 3-2 in September.

“This council meets twice a month, which would be approximately sixteen meetings [since then]. Yet, only five have been uploaded,” the citizen claimed. “Do you think we can maybe get those uploaded?”

Tait explained that the council has been experiencing some technical issues with the company hosting their website. He went on to further assure the public that they will be addressing those problems in the coming future.

The next upcoming city council meeting is scheduled for June 3 at 7:30 p.m.
