The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a phone scam where the scammer is using the name of a retired officer.

Though phone scams aren’t unusual to law enforcement, what was unusual for the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office was that the scammer was soliciting money from residents and businesses in the name of Sgt. Michael Mattlin.

Mattlin, though known after a 28-year- career with the sheriff’s office, has actually been retired since the summer of 2020. Furthermore, the sheriff’s office reminds citizens that law enforcement officers from any jurisdiction will never call and solicit for money for anyone or any reason.
