A Port Huron city council member is throwing his hat into the county commissioner ring this November election.

Jeff Pemberton, whose term on the city council was slated to end in November of 2026, announced yesterday his intention to run for commissioner of St. Clair County’s District Two. The district covers Port Huron’s first three precincts and the townships of Burtchville and Fort Gratiot. The candidate announced the news in a statement to Facebook.

The news comes on the heels of news that current District Two Commissioner, Jorja Baldwin, plans to run for outgoing state representative Andrew Beeler’s seat. Baldwin announced her intentions to pursue the 64th state district seat on Monday.

Michigan’s 64th district includes Sanilac County’s Worth Township and covers a sizable portion of St. Clair County, including Port Huron and at least six other townships.
