An out-of-county suspect in a Worth Township stalking and harassment investigation attempted to evade Sanilac County authorities over the weekend.

While investigating the case on Saturday, January 6, a Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputy observed the suspect’s vehicle heading east on Elmwood Road towards South Lakeshore Road in Worth Township. When the deputy attempted to pull over the suspect, they initially complied, stopping before fleeing south onto South Lakeshore Road.

The vehicle continued traveling south on South Lakeshore Road before continuing onto St. Clair Road, turning off their lights and increasing their speed. As the vehicle traveled south on St. Clair Road, near Fisher Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle, entering the east ditch and rolling several times. With the driver failing to follow orders to exit the vehicle, St. Clair County Sheriff deputies assisted in removing the suspect from the vehicle, and he was taken into custody.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio, was transported to Port Huron McLaren for treatment of minor injuries. He was later transported to the Sanilac County Jail, being arraigned Monday on multiple charges including reckless driving and operating while intoxicated. He is due back before Sanilac County District Court Judge Gregory Ross on Tuesday, January 16 for a 10:00 a.m. probable cause conference.

The incident remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office. Sanilac County Deputies were assisted at the scene by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington Police Department, Croswell Police Department, Burtchville Fire Department and Tri-Hospital EMS.
