After 35 years spent with the Michigan State Police, former Civilian of the Year recipient Kathy Kirsch retired yesterday from her role as the Caro Post’s administrative assistant.

Named Civilian of the Year in 2022, Kirsch was praised in her role as the post’s secretary, where she was “known as a dedicated and immensely reliable coworker always willing to help in any possible way, even for members at other worksites.”

In addition to serving the state police, Kirsch was known for participating in many fundraisers, such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, as well as routinely sewing quilts for benefit auctions. At the time of her award in 2022, she had served as a lector at her church for 10 years.

With over three decades of service under her belt, Michigan State Police are grateful for Kirsch and wish her well in retirement.
