Former Bad Axe principal Kurt Dennis is off to a good start at Sandusky Community Schools, being rated highly effective in his current role as district superintendent in a 6-0 vote on December 12.

The Sandusky School Board went into closed session during their Tuesday night meeting for an hour and a half to evaluate Dennis, who was selected in late July after a 13-week search process by the school district.

That process began after the Sandusky board chose not to renew former Sandusky superintendent Paul Flynn’s contract in February due to some community controversy and dissatisfaction, with Flynn going on to be hired as Coldwater School District’s new superintendent.

Tuesday’s board meeting also saw the resignations of business manager Kendra Messing, who will be leaving her role effective January 12, 2024, and Rachel Anderson as varsity volleyball coach.

The board also tabled two issues, including the proposed interagency partnership with Sanilac County’s Health Department for a student wellness program, until a January special meeting to allow board members to study options after hearing community opinion and concern.
