Gill steps down as Mayor of Yale

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – The City of Yale was thrown a curve ball at the city council meeting Monday night when Mayor Scott Gill made an unexpected announcement.

Gill, who has served as the city’s Mayor the past three years and been involved with council for more than 10 years, submitted his letter of resignation at the end of the meeting, with no explanation.

Gill thanked the council and city for the opportunity to serve the past several years, but gave no reasoning to anyone why he was stepping away from council.

Council members, as well as City Manager John Osborn were all shocked to learn of the news and had no idea it was coming.

After nearly three decades of serving in Yale as their City Manager, Osborn is also retiring at the end of the year, leaving the city without their top two leaders until replacements are found.

In the meantime, Yale’s Mayor Pro-Tem has stepped in to fill the role of Mayor until the council’s next meeting November 22nd.

Council will discuss how to proceed, if the Mayor-Protem will continue or if council chooses to accept applications.
