Port Sanilac home to Raymond House Inn Bed & Breakfast

(PORT SANILAC, MI) One of the oldest, grandest homes in Port Sanilac is once again open as a Bed and Breakfast, and they are inviting the public to an open house on Sunday, November 14 from 1-4 pm.

The Raymond House Inn is located right on M-25, at 111 South Ridge Street, Port Sanilac. This magnificent example of Victorian craftsmanship is hard to miss, with beautiful gingerbread trim and its red brick exterior.

The inn was originally built by one of Port Sanilac’s earliest settlers, Uri Raymond in 1872. Mr. Raymond was the first merchant trader in the area, as well as its first postmaster and schoolteacher.

Local history is full of mentions of the Raymond family as an integral part of the settling and building of the community, and this home is full of its own history.

Mary Rudd is the new Innkeeper and has reopened the home to provide lodging for visitors to the area. She purchased the property in January, did some renovations, and quietly opened this July for weekend travelers.

“It was always a dream of mine to run a Bed and Breakfast, and the opportunity to bring this lovely home back to a being a B&B was just too good to pass up!”, states Ms. Rudd.

The public is welcome to attend and view the property during this open house, get a little taste of history and a taste of delicious appetizers from The View Restaurant.

Members of the Raymond family will also be on hand to answer questions about the history of the home.

“With the holidays approaching, this seemed like a good time to invite the public in and check out the rooms in case they have extra family that needs a place to stay.”
