Streets and sewer work in Brown City underway

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Brown City officials say Murray Underground Systems of Port Huron began the water main replacement project last Wednesday, and hope to complete the project within about two weeks.

City Manager Clint Holmes said the connection of the new water main to the mains at Main Street and Maple Street will be a “live tap”, meaning residents on those streets will not lose water pressure or water service when the connections are made.

Holmes said the Main Street connection will be made on Wednesday or Thursday of this week, with the Maple Street connection being completed by early next week.

Holmes said the contractor will notify residents on Reed Street when their lines are being connected to the new main, disrupting service for around 30 minutes, if no issues come up.

In other Brown City news, the DPW plans to flush fire hydrants June 22nd through June 26th as part of this semi-annual program.

Hydrant flushing will usually take place during the day and some residents may notice some discoloration in the water during the process.

City Manager Holmes said residents are advised not to wash white or light colored clothes during the flushing of hydrants.

Also in scheduled street repair work in town, after a few delays associated with COVID-19, street work on portions of the city, including Main Street, will include chip-sealing and paving in some locations, including downtown.

The paving project is scheduled to begin in mid-July.
