Truck driver arrested at Blue Water Bridge on drug charges

A Canadian truck driver was arrested early Friday morning while crossing the Blue Water Bridge. According to a press release from the Canadian Border Patrol, the man was driving a truck that allegedly had more than 80 pounds of suspected cocaine and Fentanyl inside. During a search of the truck, officials say the driver, who was also a member of the CBP’s Trusted Traveler Program, Free and Secure Trade, became visibly nervous and was eventually arrested. CBP officials say the truck was hauling a shipment of flavoring syrup from California. According to the press release, the driver is facing federal prosecution for the exportation of illegal drugs. Homeland Security Investigations Border Enforcement Security Task Force from Port Huron is investigating the case.
