Elkton man killed in tractor accident

An 18-year old Elkton man is dead after being pinned underneath a tractor in Huron County Monday afternoon. Huron Country Sheriff Department Sgt. James Hunt responded to a call from a field east of McMillan Road, south of Crown Road in Meade Township shortly after 1:30 yesterday afternoon. Upon arrival, Sgt. Hunt discovered an older model Oliver tractor pulling a trailer and a log splitter had lost control in the muddy field and slid into a water-filled ditch, pinning its operator, 18-year old Brandon Ricker of Elkton, underneath. Ricker’s grandfather, 72-year old Stewart Bouverette of Fillion, and Sgt. Hunt attempted to move the tractor, but were unable to. While waiting for Kinde area Firemen and Central Huron Ambulance to respond, a citizen arrived with a front end loader and was able to move the tractor enough to get Ricker out, where he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Huron County Medical Examiner. The accident remains under investigation.
