Car-deer accident claims life of man

(LAPEER COUNTY) – A 44-year-old man died Thursday night after the vehicle he was driving hit a deer and overturned into a field in Lapeer County.

Lapeer County sheriff department deputies responded to the intersection of Silverwood and Swaffer Roads in Rich Township, north of North Branch, around 7:30 p.m.

Investigators say Ronald Romanowski, of Silverwood, was the lone occupant of a Chevrolet Trailblazer heading north on Silverwood Road when he struck a deer.

Deputies say the vehicle went off Silverwood, through a ditch and went airborne at the Swaffer Road intersection.

According to investigators, Romanowski was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mayville Fire and Rescue, Mayville EMS, Michigan State Police and Lapeer County EMS assisted deputies.

The crash remains under investigation.
