Storm determined to be microburst in Forester Park

(FORESTER TOWNSHIP) – A heavy thunderstorm, packed with damaging winds, ripped through Forester Park late Friday, leveling numerous trees, downing power lines and destroying an outbuilding that ended up in Lake Huron.

Sanilac County Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said he toured the park and took photos of the damage and sent them to the National Weather Service. The NWS, based on pictures and other information, has determined the damage was done by a microburst.

The storm swept through Sanilac County late Friday afternoon, hitting the shoreline campground around 6:30 p.m.

While the park sustained substantial damage, no camping trailers or visitors were injured in the storm.

Park officials said cleanup efforts will take several days and have closed the playground, boardwalk and beach areas “for days to come”.

Park staff is also asking anyone if they come across Halloween props that had been placed to please return them to the Park.
