(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – Detectives from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle believed to be involved in a pair of incidents in Brockway Township. The suspect vehicle is believed to be an early 2000’s model white Pontiac Grand Am four door, which appears to be in good condition. The vehicle was being driven by suspects in the attempted break-in of an ATM machine at the Tri-County Bank in Brockway Township and the attempted break-in of the Countryside Market located at M-136 and M-19 in Brockway Township. The suspects damaged the ATM machine at the bank, but were unable to access the safe. At the store, the suspects smashed the front window, but it appears they did not take anything. Both incidents occurred in the early morning hours of May 18th. If anyone has information regarding the vehicle they are asked to contact the St. Clair County Sheriff Department.

(AREA) – With graduations taking place throughout the Thumb region, tractors have been showing up at schools in the Tri-County area. In Huron County Wednesday morning, several North Huron students arrived to school not in a car or truck, but in a farm tractor. The event coincides with the Senior’s last full day and celebrates the agricultural heritage of the Kinde, Port Hope, and Port Austin communities. A similar event was held in Sandusky prior to the Class of 2019’s last day of classes, with tractors of all shapes and sizes parading their way on to the school’s campus.

(LAPEER COUNTY) – The City of Lapeer should have a new Mayor by next month, after city commissioners select a replacement for William Sprague who will be retiring Monday. The commission is expected to take action at their meeting June 3rd. The person chosen will serve until the fall election next year when voters will select a new mayor to fulfill Sprague’s term that expires at the end of 2021. Five people have filed for the opening, including two current commission members. In other business, the City of Lapeer has been contacted by a California-based company interested in purchasing property in Lapeer for a marijuana business on Court Street. The company has proposed buying a 25,000 square foot building and say they would invest around $12 million dollars, adding jobs to Lapeer County. Lapeer is the only governmental unit in the county that allows marijuana-related businesses, with the majority of other entities throughout the county opting out of the controversial issue.

(CAPAC) – Dollar General is at it again, seeking approval from officials in the Village of Capac to build another new store. Capac’s Zoning Board of Appeals will be meeting early next month to consider requests that would clear the way for a new commercial store on the south side of the village. Dollar General has been in touch with officials from both Capac and Mussey Township for available property. Business planners are currently eyeing property just south of the train tracks, on the west side of the street, for another new location. Dollar General currently has locations throughout the listening area including Memphis, Lapeer, Yale, Brown City, Marlette and Peck.

(PORT SANILAC) – It’s almost Memorial Day Wweekend and with that comes the time honored tradition of the “Blessing of the Fleet” that will take place at the Port Sanilac Harbor, at 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 27th. The event will include guest speakers, a band concert, and a chicken barbecue until 2 p.m. Blessing of the fleet is a centuries’ old maritime tradition intended as protection for commercial and recreational activities against dangers from the seas. According to event organizers, the blessing is done to for protection, to commemorate Memorial Day, for those in the Armed Services who gave their life for their country, and for those who lost their life on waterways.

(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Sanilac County Sheriffs office is seeking the public’s help as they investigate two ATV’s that were stolen from Ball Equipment. Police say between Friday, May 17th in the evening and Tuesday, May 21st in the morning the machines were taken from the business on South Sandusky Road. If anyone has seen any suspicious activity, or has any information, they are asked to call the sheriff department at (810) 648-2000. Sheriff department investigators also continue to look for help in identifying the suspect(s) involved in recent multiple breaking and entering’s on the west end of Carsonville. The crimes occurred during the night time hours on May 11th and 12th. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area is encouraged to contact the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department.

(LAPEER) – Lapeer school district staff has notified parents that the district was recently made aware of a conversation between two students involving potentially threatening behavior that was overheard at the Center for Innovation campus on Thursday.
According to school authorities, the students were immediately questioned by school officials, as well as local law enforcement, and it was determined that it was not a credible threat. Parents are being encouraged to remind their children that the school will not tolerate threatening language of any kind, regardless of intent.
