Deckerville high school placed on lock down

Police respond to Deckerville high school

 

3:30 P.M. – UPDATE

Deckerville Community Schools was placed on secure lock down around 10:30 a.m. Monday morning. School officials the move was in response to an altercation that took place between two students in the high school. Local and county law enforcement was notified and responded to the school campus immediately.

The district remained on lock-down until searches were conducted throughout the campus and until both parties were confirmed to be secure. School officials said the situation has been resolved and students are attending regular classes as of noon. Superintendent Michael Hugan said as with any incident, students and staff safety is of utmost importance.

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office said an 18-year-old student left prior to law enforcement’s arrival while a 14-year-old student was still on campus and would not calm down. The student was removed by Deputies so the school could resume its normal function, while Deckerville Police remained on scene. 

Police said an investigation is being conducted into this, and other incidents, involving the subjects. Authorities said no further information is being released.
