Sanilac County Commissioners meet Tuesday afternoon

Carl Osentoski, the EDC Director for Huron, Tuscola and Sanilac counties spoke to the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners Tuesday afternoon, giving them an update on activities in the county. Osentoski said the EDC has been working with Croswell officials on road improvements within the Industrial Park district and have been in contact with Marlette and Sandusky officials regarding the State’s Rising Tide program. He also pointed out the EDC is currently working with Brown City an Industrial Park expansion project, although he did not give any specifics.

In other Commissioner news, Drain Commissioner Greg Alexander addressed the board on the progress in Worth Township, noting that it is nearing the final stages. An extension will be applied for to allow for landscaping to take place, once the weather breaks next spring. Alexander said lift stations three and four are ready to go on line and they are waiting for utility companies to do their work before the remaining stations are on line. The Drain Commissioner, who has overseen the project since it started over a year ago, said all new pipe will be in the ground by the ends of this week.

Sanilac County Mental Health Director Will Morris said the new office in Croswell has been open for five weeks and has been well received. Morris said he felt there was a large need for services in the southeastern portion of the county and noted over one-third of their client base is from that area. Morris said more than 300 people attended a recent Open House at the facility and new clients continue to walk in on a daily basis.

Board Chairman Dan Dean and Vice-Chairman Gary Heberling read resolutions honoring the work of fellow Commissioners Paul Muxlow and William Sarkella who attended their final meetings as Commissioners Tuesday.
