Scam Warning From Lapeer Co.

The Lapeer County sheriff department is warning of a scam involving fake identifications of deputies. According to investigators, two physicians were contacted with scammers’ phone calls Wednesday, using actual names of deputies, saying they needed to pay money to resolve outstanding warrants. The callers tell victims to send money using Green Dot Cards and not go to the Sheriff’s Office or County Court complex. Authorities said so far, they know of only two victims of the scam and encourage everyone if they have been contacted to call the sheriff’s department. It is not believed any money has exchanged hands so far with the latest scam.
