Man Arraigned in Shooting Death

Michael Vultaggio, of Sterling Heights, was arraigned Thursday on charges of careless discharge of a firearm resulting in death, a 2-year felony; and with lying to a police officer, a 1-year misdemeanor. The 21-year-old man was arraigned in connection with the fatal shooting of a 73-year-old Riley Township woman. Police said Vultaggio had been target shooting at a berm about 2,000 feet away at the time of the incident. Shirley Pfeil died after a bullet struck her inside her Dunn Road home March 25. She was at home with her husband at the time of the shooting and was transported to a Port Huron hospital and later was pronounced dead. Vultaggio has a $10,000 bond and is due back in court next week.
