Sanilac County Sheriffs Department Joins Other Departments in Cracking Down On Texting and Driving

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department is joining other area law enforcement agencies in Michigan during the month of April, stepping up patrols for motorists who text while driving. The national U Drive. U Text. U Pay. high-visibility enforcement campaign will enforce anti-texting laws and advertise their efforts with media and social media outreach to make drivers aware of the enforcement and encourage them to obey the law during the stepped up enforcement period and beyond. Violating the texting law may be costly as convicted drivers face a first offense fine of $100 with subsequent offenses costing $200 each.
