Lawsuit; financial drain could await township officials in proposed project

A proposed wind turbine project, and it’s affects on property owners was the hot topic at the Burnside Township meeting Monday night. Township officials are seeking public input on how to best proceed, but were cautioned at the meeting by insurance experts that they could be facing a legal battle that could drain the township financially.

The proposed project, in northern Lapeer County, includes portions of Burnside, Burlington and North Branch townships. 20 property agreements, covering 60 parcels has already been entered in to county records as participating in the project that is estimated to be still 5 to 10 years away from happening.
