Alleged kidnapped baby returned to mother

The Sanilac County sheriff department and the Prosecutor’s Office assisted an out-of-state woman in a case of an alleged kidnapping. Undersheriff Brad Roff told WMIC the woman, despite being late for a scheduled court appearance in Sanilac County Thursday morning, recovered her 15-month old infant that she claimed was taken by the baby’s father June 21st without her permission. The woman, in a phone interview with WMIC, said she lived in Tennessee and had come to the Brown City area for a meeting with the father of the baby. The woman claimed the man took the baby and kept her for seven days. Frustrated with what she called the lack of assistance from law enforcement officers and the court system this past week, she called WMIC who then promptly called authorities. The baby was returned to her mother late Thursday morning unharmed.
