Police investigate fatal accident
(Elk Township) – The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single occupant rollover fatal accident that occurred Tuesday around 2:30 p.m.
Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding a male subject trapped under a lawn mower on Farr Road, south of Marlette Road in Elk Township.
According to police, 65-year-old John Maedel of Elk Township was mowing the east side ditch when his mower overturned, causing it to land on top of him.
Maedel was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. Assisting at the scene were Sanilac EMS and Sandusky fire department.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the accident which remains under investigation.
