Wanted man takes own life

(Brockway Township) – The man wanted in St. Clair County on multiple charges who killed himself during a standoff with Detroit police Saturday was involved in a 10-car pileup in Macomb County May 25, according to officials.

Police said David White was the operator of a truck that slammed into vehicles that were stopped or preparing to stop on M-53 near 32 Mile Road in Washington Township, near Romeo.

Police began searching for White Friday after he allegedly forced an 86-year-old Brockway Township woman to drive him to Detroit at gunpoint. Authorities said he had been staying at his father’s home in the 10,000 block of Wilkes Road, near Yale.

While she was returning home, White had her stop near Gratiot Avenue and 14 Mile Road, where he got out.

Police went to a southwest Detroit dwelling about 5 a.m. Saturday after a landlord recognized White from a TV news report and called police.

After a four-hour standoff with Detroit police, White shot himself, according to police.
