Accident damages downtown property in Sandusky

Police investigate accident

The Sandusky police department responded to a report of an accident in the downtown area around 2 a.m. Monday morning.

Sandusky Chief Bret Lester said a 29-year old Carsonville man was northbound on S. Elk St when his car crossed the center line and struck a tree and concrete flower planter on the west side of the road in front of 10 S. Elk St.

Coady Hoxi told police he had fallen asleep while returning home and lost control.

Chief Lester estimated the damage to be over $1,000 and said drugs or alcohol were not determining factors in the crash. No injuries were reported.

City workers were quick on the scene later in the morning, cleaning up the damage and re-installing flowers as Sandusky prepares for a busy holiday weekend.

The city will host the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall this weekend with numerous events planned throughout the weekend.
