Marlette Township voters determine fate of ordinance

Although it is still two months away, voters in Marlette Township are weighing the pros and cons of wind turbines in their township and will decide the fate of a zoning ordinance in a special Election May 2nd. If approval is given by voters, wind farm development has a better chance of becoming reality in the area. Originally, in 2014, a wind power company began accumulating lease agreements from property owners in Marlette Township along with Lamotte, Moore and Argyle townships.

The proposed plan, that would have covered over 20,000 acres of farmland, was scrapped due to strong resistance.

The special election in Marlette Township is expected to cost taxpayers more than $3,000.
