Road Commissioners gave thumbs up for two projects later this year

(Sandusky) – The Sanilac County Road Commission board gave approval for two road projects later this year in the northwestern part of the county. A one mile section of Cass City Road, between Wheeler and Patterson will be reconstructed at a total cost of $115,000. Austin Township will pay $95,000 as their part of the project. The second project is a one mile stretch on Leslie Road, between Deckerville and Shabonna Roads, in Evergreen Township.

Road Commission officials said the township’s portion of the Leslie Road project will cost taxpayers just over $83,000. Both projects are expected to take six to eight weeks to complete and will only be open to local traffic.

In other road commission news, the board and staff debated on the topic of liquid manure haulers throughout the region and how to handle what some citizens see as a traffic hazard. Chairman Don Rickett said he attended one meeting between haulers, farmers and township officials that got out of hand.

The board and staff both agreed that a private meeting, between the groups should be held to try to resolve concerns. No date has been set for the meeting.
