Brown City girls win; Peck boys win tourney

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Deckerville used a 28-21 advantage in the second half to pull out a 43-34 win over Sandusky last night in a non-conference game. Brandon Pattullo and Kenton Bowerman had nine points apiece for the Eagles and Wyatt Janowiak chipped in with eight. Josh Sauer led the Redskins with nine points and Jared Bender had eight. In other boys action, it was Ubly slipping past Bad Axe 33-29.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Sandusky kept their unbeaten streak alive at seven, following a 63-16 whipping of Deckerville last night at the Mark S. Hund gymnasium. The Lady Redskins used a balanced scoring attack to outscore Deckerville 37-5 in the second half. Haley Nelson led the winners with 11 points while Madison Armstrong and Madysen Jansen tossed in 10 each. Madison Guza led the Deckerville scoring with eight points.In another non-conference rivalry game, Bad Axe posted a 51-42 win over Ubly.

North Branch rallied in the fourth quarter to slip past Brown City 61-58 in a semi-final game at the Harry Moore Classic Wednesday night. The Broncos outscored the Green Devils 28-15 to advance to the championship game tonight. Three Broncos scored in doubles figuires, led by Chance Culvert’s 19 points. Riley Bugg had 16 and Kaleb Bickel chipped in with 14. Andrew Geiger paced the Green Devil scoring with 25 points and 11 rebounds while Calvin Cook scored 14 points. In the second game of the evening, Capac had no trouble disposing of Kingston 62-39 to move on to the title game.

Girls
Brown City advanced to this afternoon’s title game wth a 64 to 26 win over North Branch. Kendal Muxlow was two rebounds shy of having a triple-double, scoring 16 points and adding 10 steals and eight rebounds to lead the Lady Green Devils. Becki Krause topped the scoring on both sides with 18 points and Lexi Crenshaw finished with eight points and had seven rebounds. In the other half of the bracket, it was Kingston 39, Capac 15 as the Lady Cards advanced to the title game.

In today’s action at the Harry Moore, on the girl’s side, North Branch will face Capac in the consolation game at 2:00pm. Brown City will take on Kingston for the championship at 3:30.
On the boy’s side, Brown City will take on Kingston in the consolation game at 6:00pm and North Branch will take on Capac for the championship at 7:30. Both boys games will be broadcast on 97.7 WTGV beginning with the pre-game show at 5:30pm

Peck earned the championship trophy with a 57-36 win over host Cardinal Mooney. Dylan Dankenbring paced the Pirate scoring with 24 points, 19 of which came in the second half. Kody LaFleur added 20 points. In the girls title game, L’Anse Creuse beat Marine City Cardinal Mooney 37 – 25.

In football news, the 8-Man football schedule is out for next season. The C-PS Tigers open the season at Kingston and host rival Peck in Week 4. The Peck Pirates will have their hands full in Week 1, traveling to Lawrence. Meanwhile, the football machine known as the Deckerville Eagles will face Bay City All-Saints in their opener and tangle with Peck in the season finale. The upcoming season will be the debut of the new-look NCTL that features a 16-team mega-conference.
