Police arrest suspect near Bad Axe

(Bingham Township) – A 26-year old Bad Axe area man couldn’t beat the frigid elements, or the police. Huron County sheriff deputies were called to Nugent Rd., south of Wadsworth Rd. in Bingham Twp. shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday night, to check a vehicle in the roadway with no lights on or no one around. Police later received information the suspect may have driven a vehicle in to a shed on private property.

Officers conducted a search and found foot tracks leading to a ditch, which eventually led to the man hiding in a ditch culvert. He was extremely cold due to single digit temperatures and was wet after breaking through ice in the ditch. EMS personnel took the suspect to Huron Medical Center for treatment of exposure.

26-year-old Kyle L. Marks was formally charged by the Huron County Prosecutor’s Office Friday for unlawfully taking the pickup, operating while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and felony burglary without forced entry. He was arraigned in the 73B District Court and remains in jail on $3,000 bond.
