Sandusky home damaged by fire

Sandusky and Carsonville fire departments were called to a home on Lamotte St. in Sandusky around noon today, after receiving a report of a structure fire. Sandusky Fire Chief Todd Hillman said the homeowner was leaving the home, but went back in to get her keys and discovered heavy smoke coming down the hallway and called 9-1-1. According to Hillman, there were flames coming out a back window of a bedroom and extending to the eves.

Parts of the home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage. The homeowner, who escaped the flames unharmed, will be staying with family members until repairs can be made.

Hillman said the cause of the blaze was an unattended candle in the bedroom that caught drapes on fire. The American Red Cross has been called to assist the family.
