State Police Holiday Enforcement Highlights Operation C.A.R.E. and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

(AREA) — The Michigan State Police reminding motorists to make safety a priority during their holiday travel this Labor Day weekend. Again this year, troopers will join their counterparts from across the country in the international traffic safety initiative, Operation C.A.R.E. As part of Operation C.A.R.E. and the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” drunk driving enforcement campaign, this weekend troopers will put special emphasis on dangerous driving behaviors, unbelted motorists and those driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The official Labor Day weekend begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 2 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 5. Last year, 12 fatal traffic crashes resulted in 15 deaths over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Reisdents and holiday travelers are also reminded that as part of the M-25 bridge replacement project over Mill Creek in Worth Township, MDOT has installed temporary stop signs on M-90 at Wildcat Road. The intersection will function as a four-way stop for the duration of the project. Motorists will also see advanced notice of the four-way stop on M-90, including dual “stop” and “stop ahead” signs, rumble strips, barrels, and message boards. MDOT plans to reopen M-25 over Mill Creek in November.
