Michigan researchers get $250,000 in Head Health Challenge

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – Researchers at the University of Michigan are getting $250,000 for their work that could help limit head injuries. The researchers are among winners of the NFL’s third Head Health Challenge announced Tuesday. They designed a lightweight, multi-layered composite material that can be used to help limit the force of multiple and repeated impacts to the head. The researchers with the Ann Arbor school also will get a chance at $500,000 in funding. The Head Health Challenge is sponsored by the NFL, GE, Under Armour and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It’s part of a multi-year effort to help develop diagnoses and treatments of mild traumatic brain injury.
