Sheriff Biniecki reminds motorists to be safe over holiday weekend

(AREA) — Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki reminds motorists to drive safely during the extended Thanksgiving weekend. In 2014 Sanilac County had 1,381 traffic accidents during the holiday period, including 166 injury accidents and eight fatal accidents. In order to reduce the potential for an accident, Sheriff Biniecki advises motorists to get plenty of sleep before driving, avoid alcohol and always wear seatbelts. With the holidays coinciding with firearm deer season, Sheriff Biniecki says a large deer herd combined with a high number of cars on the road will increase the chance for a collision. Last year, there were 1,035 deer-vehicle accidents in Sanilac County. The Thanksgiving weekend runs from Wednesday night through Sunday.
