DETROIT (AP) – A business affiliated with the owners of the Detroit Red Wings is buying up more property near the site of the team’s new arena north of downtown. The Detroit News reports parking lots and buildings recently bought by Olympia Development are near the Masonic Temple. Plans haven’t been released about what might happen to the properties, but redevelopment is likely. Masonic Temple president Roger Sobran says “we have a really good working relationship with Olympia and we are going to keep working with them.” Olympia Development is owned by Wings’ owners Mike and Marian Illitch. The $450 million arena is expected to open in 2017. It will be the anchor for a 45-block entertainment district that will include housing and retail. The Wings currently play at Joe Louis Arena.
