(HURON COUNTY) – An afternoon of fun in the Saginaw Bay helping raise money through a boating event Saturday turned tragic after one person was seriously injured after two boats collided offshore from Fairhaven Township in Huron County. According to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, deputies responded to a public access boat ramp in Fairhaven Township around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a boating accident.

Deputies say two 16′ shallow water motorized boats with 2 people on each them were being operated in an aggressive manner and were driving over what’s thought to be muskrat houses in a vegetated area. Sheriff Hanson said at some point, one boat broadsided the other and hit the passenger of the broadside boat in the chest with it’s bow.

27-year old Dalton Davis, of Westland, was seriously injured and taken by Scheurer EMS to Scheurer Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to an out of county hospital for further treatment later Saturday night. The operator of the victim’s boat, a 25-year old male from Livonia, and two others from Newport Michigan on the collision boat, were not injured.

Deputies did not say if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident that remains under investigation.
