Imlay City to celebrate Sesquicentennial this weekend

(LAPEER COUNTY) – Fresh off the highly successful Eastern Michigan State Fair, Imlay City will be busy once again when they host a special event next weekend, August 14th and 15th.

Organizers for Imlay City’s Sesquicentennial are putting the finishing touches on plans for the two-day event that is sure to draw a big crowd to town once again.

On Friday, August 14yj, visitors will have a laundry list of activities to attend including a Kids Zone packed full of fun for the youngsters, beginning at 12 noon. A couple of fun contests – a pickle eating contest and a corn hole tournament are also slated for later Friday while the skies will light up at dusk for a large fireworks celebration.

On Saturday, among the festivities is a pancake breakfast at the old fire hall on Third Street, the Kid’s Zone starts at noon and the Grand Parade will step off at 4 p.m. in the downtown area.

Rounding out the fun on Saturday is a pickle eating contest, a taco eating contest and a corn hole tournament.

The celebration was planned for last year, Imlay City’s 150th birthday, but was cancelled due to the pandemic.
