(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – St. Clair County Animal Control responded to an animal welfare complaint Tuesday regarding a foul smell and discovered a much larger, more serious issue. Animal control officers seized more than 120 animals from the home Tuesday, with the biggest number of animals being domestic birds. Authorities sat there were also nine dogs, four kittens and other livestock, including ducks, chickens and rabbits. The home is on Bauman Road in Columbus Township and no arrest has been made although officials expect to seek several charges. Tuesday’s case is part of a recent rash of animal seizures since last Monday that has seen officers seize 167 total, including allegedly starving horses and puppies.

(SANILAC COUNTY) Port Sanilac officials are continuing a fundraising effort they hope will raise $25,000 to bring improvements to the Harbor area. Village council members were informed about half of the money has been raised as plans continue to bring additional electrical service to the park area, by the Marina. Organizers of the effort say the additional electrical service will allow the village to continue to host large summer events including the Music in the Harbor series and the Port Sanilac Summer Festival.If anyone is interested in donating, they can contact the Port Sanilac Village Hall.

(SANILAC COUNTY) -The Deckerville school board has approved their revised budget for the 2018-2019 school year which shows revenue of just over $6.2 million dollars with expenditures of more than $6.3 million. School officials say around $115,000 thousand dollars of fund equity was used to balance the budget for last year, leaving the district with a fund balance of over $2.1 million dollars. The board also approved a proposed budget for the coming school year, with projected revenues of just over $6 million dollars and expenses of almost $6.6 million with $460,000 thousand worth of fund equity being used. The board expects to have a fund equity of around $1.6 million at the end of next school year. In other action, the board approved a contract extension for Superintendent Michael Hugan through the 2021-2022 school year and agreed to seek applications for an Assistant Principal for grades K-12.

(LAPEER COUNTY) – Imlay City school district voters will be going to the polls this fall to determine the fate of a proposed bond millage that if approved, would raise over $36 million dollars for the district. School board members reviewed the proposal at a recent meeting. The $36.8 million dollar proposal includes a request for just over $14 million dollars for a performing arts center. The proposal also seeks security upgrades, additional classrooms and other improvements. School officials say the ballot issue, if passed in November, may not mean an increase of taxes for residents due to an expiring bond issue in 2020.

(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – Cass City school board members are taking a proactive approach to their 2019-2020 budget for next year, limiting their spending as much as possible. At their meeting earlier this month, board members gave approval of a budget showing expenditures of just over $10 million dollars with revenue of $10.066 million, a decrease of $90,000 over last year. The district anticipates finishing with a fund balance of $1.86 million dollars, 18.5% of the total budget.

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – Port Huron police are reporting a car accident has damaged an iconic Port Huron bar. The Palms Krystal Bar in the 1500 block of Pine Grove Avenue was struck by a vehicle shortly before 11:30 am this morning. Two people sustained minor injuries in the accident and the building sustained significant damage to it’s north side. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but police believe it to be the result of a medical issue with the driver. The Palms Krystal Bar, also known as Chicken in the Rough, is closed until further notice according to owners of the business.
