A $6 million dollar expansion at Hills & Dales Hospital in Cass City, making it a state-of-the-art facility, was kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony Friday. The three-phase expansion will be connected on to the existing facility that has seen several improvements since being built in 1960. The expansion project involves changes to both the first and second floors of the existing hospital with major upgrades to 12 patient rooms, making them private rooms with a bathroom and shower.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved a $5.3 million loan in 2016 to help with the project, which is expected to take about 18 months to complete. The remaining cost of the project — $500,000 — came from fund raising and donations.
