(Huron County) – Friday morning at 5:35, Huron County sheriff deputies were dispatched to Campbell Road near Maxwell Road in Chandler Twp., where a sheep had been found standing in the roadway by a motorist. While making arrangements to get the animal back to its rightful owner and events that followed, it was learned that eight sheep of a flock of 22 were dead in the owner’s barn.
Richard Buchholz the owner, also found two Pitt Bulls near the barn that didn’t belong to him. Our Deputies were able to capture the dogs, who by evidence found throughout their fur, were believed responsible. They were then taken to the Thumb Animal Shelter and quarantined.
A 36-year-old owner of the dogs was located, who lives a couple miles away and notified of the incident. Later at around 10:30, a local veterinarian was on scene to treat and euthanize the severely injured sheep. It was believed very few would survive.
The Huron County Prosecutor’s Office will be reviewing this incident and charges will likely be forthcoming. The value of the sheep was estimated to be near $5000.
