A Sanilac County driver was injured Sunday afternoon after trying to avoid a deer in the roadway.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, about a single vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Peck Road, near School Road, in Elk Township.
Initial investigation found that the driver, a 68-year-old woman from Croswell, was traveling east on Peck Road in a 2022 Ford Explorer when she swerved to avoid a deer. However, by swerving, she crossed the road’s centerline and went off the north side of the road, entering a drainage ditch.
The driver suffered injuries, and was transported to McKenzie Hospital by Sanilac EMS for treatment. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.
Deputies were assisted on scene by Elk Township Fire, Sanilac EMS, and Sal’s Towing.
