A former Croswell resident and Croswell-Lexington High School graduate has been selected for the Washington State 2025 Family Educator of the Year.
Dr. Rebecca L. Benko received the award from the Washington Academy of Physicians. She was selected amongst nominees from around the state based on letters submitted by her former resident doctors and fellows.
Described as pivotal and uniquely supportive of their careers, Dr. Benko is known for sharing these traits with all residents and fellows at Tacoma Family Medicine over her many years on the faculty. Her mentorship and role modeling was noted as key to the growth of these residents and fellows in their careers, and their development as physicians.
Dr. Benko is the daughter of Judge George and Ella Benko, longtime Croswell residents, who now reside in Birmingham. She is also a former employee of Sanilac Broadcasting Company.
