With the need to hire an interim superintendent and their search timeline looming, the Sandusky Community School Board of Education hired Jeff Hartel for the role at a special meeting Monday, June 5.

Hartel, former superintendent at Cass City Public Schools, was interviewed by the board before the seven members unanimously voted in favor of hiring him as the interim superintendent, presumably until the district’s search for the new superintendent is finished. His duties officially began Tuesday, June 6.

Hartel had served at Cass City Public Schools since 1991, taking over as the middle school principal at the district in 2001. In May 2010, he moved up to the district’s superintendent role. After thirty years with the district, Hartel retired from Cass City Public Schools in 2021, with superintendent Allison Zimba succeeding him in the role the same year.

The Sandusky Board of Education plans to hold another special meeting on Monday, June 19, at 6:00 p.m., with their regular monthly meeting scheduled for the Monday after, on June 26, at 7:30 p.m.
