Accident injures four in Lapeer County

(LAPEER TOWNSHIP) – The Lapeer County Sheriff Department is reporting multiple people have been struck by a vehicle late Monday. According to investigators, the incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday night near Morris and Peppermill roads in Lapeer Township.
Deputies say five people were out for an evening walk, in dark clothing and were struck from behind by a vehicle driven by a 22-year old North Branch woman.
The impact threw the victims nearly 100 feet according to the crash report.
Among the injured is a 27-year old Caro woman and a three-year old child, both of whom sustained life-threatening injuries.
Two other victims were taken to McLaren Lapeer for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Lack of street lights in the area and the injured wearing dark clothing were contributing factors in the accident.
Police say there was no evidence of distracted driving, excessive speed or that alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
