Man in Accidental Shooting to be Sentenced

A 21-year-old Sterling Heights man will be sentenced June 28 in the fatal shooting of a 73-year-old Riley Township woman. Michael Vultaggio pleaded guilty to charges of careless discharge of a firearm resulting in death, a 2-year felony; and lying to a police officer, a 1-year misdemeanor, during a probable cause conference in May. His sentencing is scheduled in St. Clair County Circuit Court. Shirley Pfeil died after a bullet struck her inside her Dunn Road home March 25. Police have said the 21-year-old told them he had been target shooting at a berm about 2,000 feet away from the Pfeil home. Police say Pfeil and her husband were in the kitchen at the time of the shooting.
