District 3 Commissioner William Sarkella
William Sarkella has been selected from a list of five candidates to fill the vacant District 3 Board of Commission seat for Sanilac County. Sarkella, a longtime Sanilac County resident, took the oath of Office and was seated for Tuesday afternoon’s meeting. The new commissioner has a long history of serving in the county and has also been part of the Carsonville-Port Sanilac school district as a school board member and softball coach. Sarkella takes over for John Hoffman who resigned last month.
In other Board of Commissioner news, retiring Administrator/Controller Kathy Dorman received accolades from county and state officials for her 30 years of service to Sanilac County.
Proclamations were presented to Dorman from State Rep. Shane Hernandez, Ed Smith representing Congressman Paul Mitchell and and Board of Commission chairman Dan Dean.
Dorman will leave her position December 31st and has been retained on an hourly contract to help with transition of the new Administrator/Controller Tara Griffith.
Commissioners also gave approval to move forward with the infrastructure improvements at Forester Park. Grant funding of $150,000 has been applied for towards the overall project cost with 59 sites to have septic service installed and 82 sites getting 50amp connections.
The 68 acre park has 190 camping sites. If grant approval is received, work is expected to begin next year. Other funding will come from the Parks Millage and the Parks general fund.
